Marjoram

A perennial member of the mint family is marjoram. The herb, which is native to the Mediterranean, portions of Asia, and Africa, was considered a sign of happiness by several ancient cultures. The goddess of love, Aphrodite, grew marjoram according to Greek mythology.

Tiny clusters of fuzzy green leaves that resemble knots are formed by the leaves. It is occasionally referred to as “knotted marjoram.” Of the forty species in the genus Origanum, only one is recognized as a real marjoram. The remainder are regarded as oregano.

The flavor of marjoram is earthy and woodsy, with citrus and pine undertones akin to balsam. It tastes warm, pungent, and bitter, like thyme and oregano
